Still looking for Halloween ideas? Look no further, these are tasty yummy biscuits and they are very easy to make….Big C made these cookies for the Children’s entry of the Autumn bake off over at English Mum’s using a selection of Silverspoon decorating bits that we were sent to try out.

  • 175g soft unsalted butter
  • 400g plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 200g caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt ( I use less than this)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 300g icing sugar and  food colouring
  1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC/ gas mark 4
  2. Cream the butter & sugar until pale and mouse like
  3. Beat in the eggs & vanilla
  4. In a separate bowl combine the flour, baking powder & salt
  5. Add dry ingredients to the butter & eggs, mix gently.
  6. If the mixture is too sticky then add more flour sparingly.
  7. Halve the dough, make into fat discs, wrap each half into clingfilm and rest in fridge for at least 1 hour.
  8. Remove one disc and place onto a floured surface.Roll out to a thickness of 1/2cm. Cut with the cookie cutters & place onto greased or lined baking sheet leaving a small space between each one.
  9. Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown on the edges.
  10. Leave to cool.
  11. Decorate with icing

This is a tried and tested favourite recipe from Nigella Lawson
