You’d think that by child number five now I’d have this bringing up children lark down to a fine art…..hmmmm. Not at all…..I’m dealing with teen issues, pubescent issues and the dreaded toddler tantrums all at the same time. Head spinning a bit? Yes you could say that…..
Little M has been a lovely little boy, a pleasure to have around…sweet, cute….smiles at you that you can’t resist…..I knew I was making a rod for my own back by *ahem* ‘letting’ him get away with things. I knew I would pay….did I stop though? No! Silly me….
Have you ever been out in public whilst your toddler is having a tantrum and felt as though people’s eyes were boring holes into you? Judging you? I’ve been there, done that with number one,and again with number three, who virtually made me housebound with her tantrums and now my once angel number five is following suit! We don’t live near fast food restaurants or shops so I thought buying the girls and Little M a McDonald’s whilst out school shoe shopping would be a lovely treat. Little M chose a cheeseburger….he took one bite, put it down and said “I’m finished, can you open my toy for me please.” So I of course told him that he needed to finish his lunch first…….let the battle commence!! So he screamed, and screamed and screamed. I went redder and redder as people looked and stared. Then I felt tears pricking my eyes imagining that they thought I was a terrible mother not letting him have what he wanted. After what seemed an eternity though……he stopped, picked up the burger and finished it off!
Maybe I have learned something over the last sixteen years after all! 🙂

There seems to be a few spam comments. You should make this a nofollow page?
Good for you for sticking to your guns over the burger! He’ll thank you for it in the long run!
Thanks Ella…..yesterday it was a tantrum over a cereal bowl….*sigh* 😉
I hate it when Baba tantrums, I go so red in public and don’t know where to look. It is just horrible isn’t it totally feel for you xx
Thanks Kerry, yes very embarrassing but so many onlookers must have been through it too…..surely? 🙂
My boys have been super tired this week with being back at school and it has been tantrum city!
I bet they are shattered! I hope they have a lovely time at Butlins though. Good luck! 😀 x
Its so hard isn’t it? Now mine are older, I feel myself getting really irritated by the sound of a screaming toddler in the Supermarket, it really does make shopping an awful experience, my hands itch and I almost long for the parent to give the kid a good slap! I know that sounds awful, but at least I am being honest! I think kids get away with too much these days but I know I have been really lucky with my lot! Somebody, somewhere, knew I couldn’t stand naughty kids so didn’t give me any and just decided to pay me back in later years with mouthy teenagers instead!
I definitely believe a lot of children have no respect for anyone…….and surely that starts at home? I must admit I don’t smack my children but I must be doing something right, they’re all polite. I do wonder what having teenage girls will be like though. :0S
No! That sweet-faced little boy has tantrums!? 😉
They all do and most mothers will sympathize not judge. Besides, you stuck to your guns – he saw it wasn’t working and followed the rules. That means you win! Which means that he is learning that tantrums don’t work so he won’t do them as much.
Hard to believe isn’t it? 😉
I did stick to my guns but it is so hard when they/you know that if you give in the screaming will stop. I didn’t though…:D
We call those melt downs. 🙂 Stick to your guns. In today’s world, it is so hard to be a good parent!
I like that ……melt downs. I think now on number five I have to keep going……it only makes for a better adult, I’m sure. 🙂
That is a lot of kids and you do an amazing job. You are a fantastic mum and don’t ever forget it. I used to be bothered about kids having tantrums in public, not that mine do it that much but lets face it they all have their screaming embarrasing moments. Now I realise that people are just glad it’s not their kid. Well that’s what I tell myself. xx
Thank you Susan…….I always feel sympathy for anyone with a screaming child. Some people just forget don’t they and think that their child was always perfect. 😀 X
5 children!! The idea fills me with fear, were just about coping with our 3!!
I know how you feel with the tantrums stage and the general public staring and whispering! I was in Asda with my 2 yr old a few weeks back and had to refuse to buy him a toy because he said “Mummy im having that” no please or anything! He went ballistic and threw him self on the floor refusing to move out of peoples way and as one particular shopper muttered under her breath and she had to steer around him i then lost it and said, “you were 2 years old once, get a grip”! Maybe i went too far and should have remained dignified and silent but i just couldnt help it. :-O
Keep up the good work from a fellow Frazzled Mum xx
Max
I know….do people think that we enjoy it or encourage it? Yes everyone was a child once…..really annoys me. And thank you. 🙂
Your children are a delight .. so is your photography xx
Hope you are well Nova sorry I have not been on much lots going on here, being stretched in all directions xx
Thank you Ruth……don’t worry, same here. Hope you are ok. X
You have done a fantastic job bringing up all 5 of them!
Logan is a massive drama queen and throws tantrums all the time too, but you juat have to ignore them don’t you! Arwen still does, especially after school or before school and has started to scream as loud as possible for the best affect! I think some kids just do – Fleur never did really.
And as to people boring their eyes into you…at least you’re not saying “shut up and eat your f***ing food, you little c**t” Which I have heard on many occasion!!!!!! Pure class.
love to you all.
Jx
Thanks Joanne, it is funny how some do some don’t……I suppose it would be boring if we were all the same.
Your last sentence really made me chuckle when I read it on the train the other day……yes really is classy talking to children that way! XX
