Ever wished you’d never started a job? I have spent six hours today in my seven year old daughter’s bedroom trying to sort out the atrocious mess that it is in and I still haven’t finished. In fact it looks even worse at the moment and the mess now seems to have spread to the halls…..upstairs and downstairs, and the toddlers bedroom, because he’s the next in line to inherit all the accumulated junk and some of the hundreds of books that we own.

I am embarrassed to say that her drawers were so bad that they took me about four hours to go through…..she has been taking or looking for clothing out then screwing them up as she puts them back in….arghhh. I have had stern words with her tonight. She kept opening her drawers and looking at them, telling her siblings to come and look at how neat her drawers were!

After sorting out the knicker drawer I have whittled them down to twenty four pairs…..yes that’s correct, 24. I’ve no idea why she has so many, inherited from older sister and Christmas and birthdays….the socks are sorted in drawers for school and home….the short sleeved t-shirts in one drawer, long sleeved in another! Lets hope the new organisation lasts.

Books…..we have lots, and Little I still had a huge number of toddler books on her book shelves. So they were removed and replaced with the books waiting in Big C’s room, which have been on her bedroom floor for months as her book shelf has been restocked with appropriate ones for an eleven year old! And so it goes on….the toddler books are now on Little M’s bedroom floor….so I don’t think I have one single room in the house that is tidy! Oh, apart from the lounge that was last used on New Year’s Eve and the occasions that I hide behind the settee to get some peace while I’m on the phone…the things we do….

After spending another hour in there she can now actually go to sleep without sharing bed space with black sacks and piles of clothes. I expect it will be next week now before I get to finish the job!

Sooo, that was my interesting day….but I’m on a mission. Clear out is good therapy 😉 And I’m imagining all the pennies we’re going to make when we do our big garage sale!

  2. Cleaning out is good therapy – but I absolutely refuse to do Man-Child’s anymore. Oh, every once in a while he’ll ask me to to help him get it organized and if, I’m in the the right frame of mind, I might. But for the most part he’s on his own. At one point it got so bad you couldn’t see the floor for all the clothes! That’s when I had a total meltdown and he got it clean-ish and there hasn’t been clothes on the floor for a while now (but then I haven’t looked in his closet or his drawers….)

  3. You want to see Claudia’s room! It doesn’t get better as they get older, she is almost 18 and it is disgusting, she discards cleaned ironed clothes to the floor rather than putting them back in her wardrobe when she decides she doesn’t really want to wear them that day! Her room smells, honestly it is really bad, but at her age, I refuse to do it, it is beyond a joke and the cause of endless rows in the house.
