Look at this lovingly prepared home for new babies that has been abandoned….with the unhatched eggs in it. It was in the childrens’ climbing frame. I’m not an egg or bird expert so have no idea what should have hatched but the eggs are quite small. It made us sad to see this….Big C wanted one of us to keep the eggs warm. Of course we’ve left them in the hope that the parents may just come back.
And I couldn’t resist this one….it wasn’t intended for this post but I cut some cucumber and put it through the bars of ‘Twinky’s’ cage…..the smell woke him up and he sleepily sniffed his way to the cucumber with eyes half shut. I thought he looked quite sweet holding it to nibble on. Not the best photo but cute.

Great pictures! The eggs look almost fake in their perfection. Although L and I had an argument about whether Twinky was a hamster…. Can’t remember now what she thought he was, but “actually mummy, it’s not a hamster”… That’s me told, then.

Both are lovely shots. I really don’t want to sound like a know-it-all, but I think the eggs might be chaffinch eggs. The parents maybe abandoned them due to being eaten by a cat or something 🙁 so sad. I do like the birds egg shot though. I bet you were really disappointed to get no babies living in there. I know I would have been.

I love that nest shot – back in the bad old days (1970s) I remember my uncle had a small collection of blown bird’s eggs (from wayyy before it was illegal I hasten to add!) and he had those – I always thought they were blackbird eggs but if you say they are small I’m not so sure now :/
