Walkers have just launched a brand new premium Market Deli range of snacks. With a RRP for a 165g sharing bag and 83 pence for a 40g single bag there are eight flavours in this new range.

I was very lucky to get a sneaky taste of all the flavours at an event that was attended by Michelin starred chef Tom Aikens who recreated similar flavours in his dishes (one was macaroni cheese -not just any macaroni though) to the crisps.

The eight flavours of crisps are:

Potato Chips

• Cornish Mature Cheddar
• Wiltshire Cured Ham, Mature Cheddar & Farmhouse Chutney
• Balsamic Vinegar of Modena (Aceto Balsamico di Modena PGI)
• Flame Grilled Spanish Chorizo with Roasted Onion

Tortilla Chips

• Anglesey Sea Salt with Cracked Black Pepper
• Roasted Red Chilli with Mediterranean Sundried Tomato

Pita Chips

• Roasted Garlic with Mediterranean Herbs
• Roasted Red Pepper with English Tomato

I only have two bags of the Market Deli range to look at, Wiltshire Cured Ham, Mature Cheddar & Farmhouse Chutney and the Roasted Red Chilli with Mediterranean Sundried Tomato so can only say that although they don’t contain any gluten ingredients there is a warning on both bags that they are made in a factory that handles wheat, gluten, barley, soya, celery and mustard.

So, what did I think of the Market Deli range?

First the bad, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Pita Chips, they stuck to my teeth and were quite dry. However, I think they would be great with dips so don’t discount them. And, although I am a big cheese fan I have never particularly liked cheese flavoured crisps thus I will not be buying the Cheddar flavour crisps, this is very much down to personal flavour preference though. Everyone around me enjoyed them.

I did really like the Flame Grilled Spanish Chorizo with Roasted Onion crisps, they are not uncomfortably hot, the chorizo is very subtle. The Balsamic Vinegar flavour crisps are probably my favourite, they are not too sweet but very very moreish, something I would buy again. I also really like both flavours of Tortilla chips, the salt and black pepper are very mild, there is just a hint of salt. My children really like the Ham and Cheddar crisps.

It is obvious there has been a lot of work in sourcing ingredients for these snacks to bring together authentic flavours, I would definitely buy my favourite ones from the range for when we have people round for dinner and drinks. I also love the packaging and think they look good enough to take to someone’s house as a small gesture of thanks.
