Spider Cornflake cakes

Ingredients

  • 50g butter
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • 100g chocolate dark or milk
  • 80g cornflakes
  • red or licorice shoe laces
  • giant chocolate buttons
  • Smarties
  • Icing or writing icing tube

  1. Melt the butter, chocolate and golden syrup over a gentle heat in a large saucepan
  2. Add the cornflakes and carefully mix ensuring all the cornflakes are well coated in the chocolate mixture
  3. Spoon the mixture into individual fairy cake cases
  4. Cut the sweet shoes laces into 4 and use to make eight spider legs. This needs to be done before the cornflakes set.
  5. Add two chocolate buttons for eyes
  6. Using the icing add a dot of icing onto each button and then stick a smarties onto each chocolate button
  7. Allow the cornflake cases to set and then eat

Perfect for small children to make with little supervision, however advice from a four year old…” Don’t pick your nose while cooking” Good advice, eh? 😉

Chocolate Halloween Cakes

One good chocolate cake mixture. I highly recommend this one on Joy of Baking site, very moist and I substituted the self raising flour for Gluten Free self raising flour and it was very springy and light

To decorate-

  • 250g soft butter
  • approx 500g icing sugar, but it depends how stiff you like it
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Orange and Green food colouring
  • Halloween themed jelly sweets
  1. Whip the butter, vanilla extract and icing sugar together until smooth.
  2. Divide the icing into two bowls
  3. Colour one bowl of icing green and the other orange
  4. Pipe the icing onto the cupcakes
  5. Using the sweets decorate the cakes

For the Halloween biscuits follow this recipe and use Halloween cutters or cut out circles and get the children to decorate with icing pens. Again just replace the flour for a gluten free one and this works just as well.
