A couple of weeks ago we were invited to a screening of Gnomeo and Juliet. I wasn’t sure what to expect of the film from Touchstone Pictures, featuring music by Elton John and directed by Shrek 2’s director Kelly Asbury. I mean how could a story as beautiful as Romeo and Juliet possibly be retold featuring Gnomes of all…errr, creatures?
Well, I eat my words. The film is fun, sweet, lovely and all the children really enjoyed it. The main characters are played by Emily Blunt and James McEvoy but the best characters were played by Ashley Jenson ( of Ugly Betty fame) and JIm Cummings although the cast can’t get much more celebrity than this one.

In conclusion, a great take on a classic tale, tears, laughter and thoroughly enjoyable.
I think this film will definitely be going on our shelf when it comes out on DVD next month, it is a winner and one I imagine that will be watched over and over again.
