Last night I stared at my three year old as he slept in my bed, I know, I know, he has me wrapped around his little finger. His hands are still small and he wants cuddles all of the time but my stomach did a horrible flip at the thought of how quickly he is growing up, my baby. It nearly takes my breath away. I see my eldest child, now sixteen, a man, no longer a child and it only seems like yesterday he was the toddler sneaking into my bed every night for months on end. I’m not sure I will be able to bear it when the house is child free and yet it sticks with me a saying that children don’t belong to us, they are on loan. It is so true, one day they will make decisions for themselves, work, get married and have children. We really need to remember to make the most of every precious moment, however hard it is, because before we know they will have flown the nest.We are there to love, guide and nuture them.

Such a little cutie 😉 I wish I could stop the time, I don’t really want my I. to grow up, it’s hard to let them go…. isn’t it? @Kahanka
Yes, they do leave the house but never your heart and you’ll see that that is the bit they keep coming back for. Beautiful photo
Yes you must know very well especially with yours so far away. 🙁 I hope mine keep coming back. 😉 xx
Beautiful Nova! You’ve had so many of these pictures! Thank you for sharing this one!
Haha…yes I have lots don’t I. Thank you Karin. XX
Beautiful picture and on another note are those whoopie pies in your header?! I am obsessed with making them!
They are whoopie pies. There is a recipe on the blog around May 2010.X
A beautiful post and so, so true. We have them ‘on loan’ for such a short time we do need to stop and savour every second.
It just goes so quickly…wish it went a bit slower although when I have 4 teens at the same time I may have a different attitude. 😉
Oh yes, it is definitely the case of your children are not your children. If that makes sense. Lovely.
Thank you Kate.
I’ve just been thinking exactly the same thing, I know it’s a long way away yet but I can’t imagine not seeing my two every day x
I know!! What do we do then?? 😉
Gorgeous photo! And yes yes yes! I know what you mean, my boy is twelve and I can’t imagine life without children in the house. The day he leaves home will be a tearful one xxx
Gulp! It’s so sad isn’t it although I try and think of all the exciting things I could do too. 😉
Such very true words, and something we all have to face eventually – but like you, I’m not looking forward to it.
Maybe when the time comes we are prepared but I’m not so sure. 🙁
Aww this is so nice, I got all teary and I don’t even have any kids!! 🙂
Awww, sorry. 🙁
Ahhhh gorgeous photo and lovely post. It’s so true, I can’t believe DD’s already 18 months old. It’s scary and yet beautiful how quickly they become their own little person and start sprouting their wings of independence.
The more you have the quicker the time goes. I absolutely loved the first three years with my first but it seemed so much longer than the subsequent children. I don’t know where my baby’s three years went. 🙁
Ahhh this is a lovely post……
Thanks Jo. XX
Lovely photo and such beautiful words to go with it. x
Awww thanks Susan. XX
so sad but so true – time really does fly by once you have children and it is sometimes necessary to remind ourselves how precious this time is x
It is precious isn’t it. I suppose times flies when you’re having fun! 🙂
Aren’t we lucky to have a wide span of ages? I am appreciating every minute with Bonus Boy as I watch my big ones shoot up and branch out. Lovely post and photo, you are spot on!
Very lucky….I am so glad I have them spread out so that I get longer to savour these precious moments. XX
What a beautiful post, how very true. Sometimes I get upset when I see how quickly my children are growing and I dearly wish I could somehow pause them and keep them that way forever, but then I would miss out on so much and so many firsts as well as lasts.
Beautiful picture!
Thank you. I keep trying to look forward and to their exciting futures and also whatever it holds for me too. 🙂
Lovely post and gorgeous photo. x
Thank you Katy. x
Gorgeous photo. Never a truer word said, time passes too quickly.
It does doesn’t it. *SOB*
Made me think of ours and i feel just the same, I can’t beleive Fleur will be 8 this year and Logan 3 in a few weeks – time passes without anyone noticing…I was only saying yesterday that I’m usually pregant at this stage (when the youngest is 2 1/2), but no more for me. A very sad thought as I love to look at the photo’s when they were very little – we make such gorgeous babies!!
Jx
I think that’s it isn’t when you start thinking but normally I’m pregnant by now…gulp! But…I have to admit I definitely don’t feel broody now. Yes they are all gorgeous!! 😉
Great picture and fantastic, heartfelt sentiments. 🙂
Thanks so much. 🙂
Oh what a lovely post! You’ve made me all teary.
Gorgeous photo!
Oh sorry. 🙁 Thank you, I just get sad at how quickly the time goes. XX
this past year has flown by for me 🙁 my baby is 1 in a couple of weeks!!!
precious photo! thankyou for sharing 🙂 xx
What a huge huge milestone. I can remember all my children’s first birthdays so clearly. How exciting too though. X
Sleeping children are divine. I could watch them all night 😉
Such a lovely post.
Thank you so much, I know you just want to hug them when they look so angelic! 😉
Ah, you brought tears to my eyes as my one and only is inching nearer and nearer to leaving the nest!
I was thinking of you when I wrote this actually, but I bet your son will be at home for ages still. When you think they are only 16, they could be home for another 15 years…..now that’s scary in itself! 😉
What a beautiful post and your words are so true. Where does the time go? Gorgeous photo aswell x
Thank you Jenny. x
