I knew when I saw this book at Charing Cross station,London ( where I tend to buy most of my books on a whim) that I would like it. I’m easily taken in by a cover- so gullible!! Then turning to look at the back I was told to “Get ready for the most exciting countdown of your life”
I’ve never heard of Jack Reacher before but he is the character in Lee Child’s long running series. Not that you need to read any of the other books……it certainly doesn’t detract or make any difference to the enjoyment or understanding. ’61 Hours’, it turns out is the fourteenth book and was first published in March 2010. Jack is an ex Military Police officer living a nomadic lifestyle who gets stranded in South Dakota during a terrible winter storm. It just so happens that the seemingly small town of Bolton has lots of dark secrets and strange rules and regulations surrounding it’s Police department and new Prison compound.
Needless to say Jack Reacher gets involved in the complex situation. At times it is slightly implausible but that is the joy of reading, in my opinion. I was immediately hooked from page one and at times I literally couldn’t read the words quickly enough to find out what happened next. There were a couple of moments when I winced at the violence but they were not frequent.
I thought the plot was convincing and very cleverly thought out with so many twists and turns, it was a true thriller. I knew I would be very disappointed when I finished it as I had enjoyed it so much.
I award this a huge five out of five cupcakes and will be getting book fifteen as soon as I can

I love Lee Child! Fabulous choice! I even know what a Yoo
Hoo looks like (in case I am confusing you, Jack Reacher’s favorite
drink is a Yoo Hoo)
Just cannot believe I’ve not come across him before. Desperate to read the next one now! 😉
Glad to hear you liked 61 Hours but if I may, Reacher’s favorite drink is black coffee. Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar now, he loves Yoo Hoo! 😉
I love Lee Childs books, Jack Reacher rocks! Will definately have to purchase this one 🙂
I can’t believe I’ve never come across him before…….it’s just right for me at the moment. I’m really into action and thrillers at the moment. 🙂
I’ve read one of his books, Nothing to Lose, and really enjoyed it and so did Man-Child. I didn’t realize he’d written other books with the same character. I will definitely add this one to my list.
I said to my son that he should read it, I know that he will enjoy it. He has a lot of school reading to do at the moment though.
I’m just about to start another book although I know it won’t be as good as this one…I’m sure.
