The theme for this week’s Gallery at Sticky Fingers is Mother Nature. It’s something that we can’t restrain whatever it chooses to throw at us. Sadly it seems that Mother Nature is out of control at the moment, destroying parts of Australia, Brazil, Sri Lanka and The Philippines. We can not take anything for granted.

This sorry dying tree is in our garden not very far from the house, if you look closely you can see where it was struck by lightening a few years ago. I suppose we should be thankful that the tree was there to bear the brunt rather than the lightening striking the house. It’s a stark reminder of the force of mother nature though.

  1. Dramatic! Still, as you say, at least it was a tree & not your house; or you or your family!

  8. Awww I know how that feels! Not the struck by lightning part, but we had a tree that was struck three times in our back yard and we eventually had to cut it down. We live in Florida the lightning capital of the world! lol However, my gallery is the other tree in my back yard that I absolutely love! Great pic!

    1. Oh that’s scary I didn’t realise that about Florida although I remember some spectacular storms when we went there. Poor tree. 🙁

  14. Agh! Poor tree, but yes, thankfully it wasn’t your house. That’s a great representation of Mother Nature–the solid tree that is split by the power of a lightning bolt! Most mothers have that ability, I reckon 😉

  15. I love the light in this photograph and that scar is very dramatic and certainly a powerful reminder that Mother Nature is not to be messed with! We are pathetically weak compared to her awesome and quite frequently intimidating power!

    1. We are in her control aren’t we. 🙂

  17. Wow! That’s some tree scar! It’s amazing the power mother nature can unleash at times like you said. A sad reminder indeed

  18. That’s quite a scar. Is it definitely dying? That’s a shame. We used to have a beautiful apple tree in our garden and eventually had to cut it down – a sad day.

    1. Unfortunately yes. 🙁 that’s it. It doesn’t change from that picture.
