Recently there have been some funny goings on in our house…..
We live in a very old house, it was built in the Regency period as a wedding present for a farmer’s daughter and her new husband. It also happens to be the first house I have felt totally comfortable in, not being afraid at night by bumps in the night has been wonderful. I believe houses have good and bad feelings about them and this one has always felt good. Okay, I have to be careful what I view on the television because I do have an over active imagination but generally, considering we live in the middle of nowhere I sleep well at night without worrying about ghostly goings on.
Anyway, about six months ago I was woken by a huge crashing sound. Shaking I jumped out of bed not sure what to do because if there was an intruder in the house would I really want to come face to face with them? No I wouldn’t. Turning on as many lights as I could I crept downstairs and had a quick check but couldn’t see what the cause of the noise was. Eventually I stopped shaking and managed to get back to sleep.
It was quite a few days later when I walked into the dining room, yes a room not used nearly enough, and saw the mirror that hung above the fireplace smashed on the floor…..
The boys and I were watching the television a couple of months ago when we huge the loudest crash ever, we all jumped up and looked at each other in shock wondering what the hell had happened. I ran upstairs to check on the other children, the boys went from room to room searching out the cause of the noise. The last room we went to was the dining room, it wasn’t obvious at first because it had fallen behind a sideboard, but eventually we noticed that one of our beloved paintings had fallen off the wall smashing the glass, frame and skirting board. *Sob* thank goodness for home insurance is all I can say.
More recently I keep walking into rooms and I find things flung across them as though someone has just swiped everything off of tables and yet they are rooms that were tidy (ish) when I left them….mischievous elves? Ghosts? Poltergeists? Or just a cheeky toddler? I’ve always believed that a house contains vibes from whatever is going on in it …..perhaps the spooky goings on are caused by my worries or maybe we are just going through a spate of bad luck?
Or perhaps the house is saying it’s time to move on….what do you think? Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever had any ghostly experiences? I’d love to know, it all fascinates me as much as it scares me……

Yes I believe in Ghosts and also believe houses carry things. I wont stay in my mums house on my own and wont go in her dining room on my own it is very cold in there and I hate it in there. When I was tiny I used to tell mum there was a man on the top of our stairs a blue coat and a big huge hat on his head. Can see him now.
My dad believes as well, we have dreams sometimes when we both have conversations with his dad, my grandad, who has died. They are the exact same conversations! Very interesting and something I really believe in xx
My mum is very similar to you and your dad…..I’m sure I would be too but I stop it from happening! I’m such a wimp! 😉
Def believe in ghosts etc though never seen one or been affected by one but I do know we have them here at the farm. Like yours it’s old. It is also a spiritual place having four ley lines emanating from it rather than going through it. It has a wonderful atmosphere and makes me feel safe even if it has cost a fortune to renovate and now to maintain it!
I do believe in ghosts, and there are many houses I just don’t feel comfortable in. My grandmothers was one of them. Lovely house, but just would not sleep alone in it no matter what. I’m glad to hear you feel comfortable in your house, that is a big thing, especially when your on your own with the kiddies. I experience a lot of spirits just before my dad died, I would awaken to see a figure in my room. I would automatically try to touch it and it just kept moving back until it dissapeared. I have always felt presence around me, but before my dad died and after it has some how intensified. x
Absolutely believe. Our house is very haunted, and like yours, it has a wonderfully calm atmosphere. I feel totally comfortable all day and night. But I am able to pick up on the spirit presence and know when I have a visitor. There are many grounded souls in my farm house, some of which I believe to have been there for hundreds of years.

Hey Nova,
I do believe in these things and if I remember you felt the same sort of thing in Crays Foot? These things can start up with negative feelings or unhappiness in a household, or if a child has the gift? I mean the mirror and painting could obviously have just fallen due to the hook coming off the wall…did the hook come out of the wall or is it still there? But the things coming off the side boards, now thats interesting?! I wouldn’t be afraid as its happening in the rooms you don’t usually use! Try locking the doors and seeing if anything happens then..you can rule out toddlers then!
My sisters neice has the gift, she discovered it when she was 15 – but apparently its common in their family! And their youngest boy is showing signs too (he’s 7/8).
I have friends back in Gloucestershire who run Paranormal nights in haunted places, I shall ask them what they think!
Do you have any further history of the house – god I find this fascinating!
Can’t wait to catch up properly, now we have a diesel car!!
Have a super Christmas, and keep me posted!

Hi Joanne
Yes I never ever felt comfortable in that house……but I have always felt safe here. It fascinates me too….but often I try not to think about it too much as I’m such a wimp!!
You have a lovely Christmas too, I hope we can catch up very soon. XX
I believe house carry echoes from long ago, which explains the atmosphere in houses – I have decided to buy houses bases mainly on the feel of the house, you just know when it has good memories attached to it. So, I suppose you can get both sides of it, and particularly with your current issues the energy in the house might be picking up on that. Either that, or your children are making a bigger mess than expected!
Oh me too…..I always felt this house had a good feeling. I’ve heard that poltergeist activity can actually be caused by the people in the house so maybe that’s what it is or maybe just completely nothing to worry about and a coincidence! 🙂
