Why oh why does this vodka take so long to ‘make’? I think it is needed now……..I am very very busy……two long stints in London this week….and all of next week. Time to write posts and certainly to comment on others is very limited, even with my good intentions of being organised and having lots of posts lined up ready to hit the publish button….didn’t happen. Nothing has changed in my lack of organisational skills.
Anyway, in my Twitter quest for ideas of what to do with the ton of plums we have had this year a lovely lady suggested Plum Vodka!! I had never heard of it before but it seems it is a popular choice in Poland and Russia!
So…..if you have a glut of plums….like vodka and have a spare five minutes, yes that is all, then try this:
Homemade Plum Vodka recipe…
- 450 g plums
- 225 g sugar
- Bottle of vodka
- Remove stones from plums, quarter and place in a saucepan
- Add the sugar
- Add the vodka
- Heat very gently until the sugar has dissolved
- Put into bottles
- Leave in a cool dark place for three months
- Agitate every other day
- After three months strain through a muslin and re-bottle!
- Drink!
- And Enjoy!
I accidentally spilt some as I was bottling it…mmmmm, initial tastes are positive… š

I usually don’t imbibe in liquor – but this sounds especially yummy! And as Jenny suggested, make extra and put in pretty bottles – perfect Christmas presents!
