Devil’s food cupcakes- recipe at Eggs,Cream & Honey

My biggest boy ‘Big H’ was sixteen yesterday…..is it just me or does anyone else find the birth milestones of their children hard? I remember his first birthday so clearly…..I can still picture him opening his presents on his second, on his third he had a big party in our tiny garden and we had a bouncy castle. As the last guest left I noticed his first chicken pox spot and as a leaving gift he passed chicken pox onto half of the little party goers…oops. For his fifth birthday party we turned our kitchen into  ‘space’ blacking out the walls and ceilings and making stars to stick to the ceiling…..I then made a cake with one of the Toy Story aliens on the top. For ‘Big H’s’ eighth and ninth birthdays we had football parties and then at thirteen he had all of his year round for swimming and generally mucking about in the garden, black clouds threatened overhead and we watched storms all around us which miraculously never hit us .

Poor boy having a summer birthday means that he will often hit big exams around his birthday…common entrance exams luckily finished a couple of days before his thirteenth but he is well in the midst of IGCSE exams at the moment so spent a lot of the day revising……I’m sure he will make up for it with the fifteen weeks he has off over the summer though.

A birthday is not a birthday without cake, and we all love cake….I made lovely devil’s food cupcakes with white chocolate icing ( and some chocolate icing) for him as he is a chocoholic and especially loves chocolate cake.

No one said being a parent was easy…..and it’s not….at times it is impossibly hard, whatever the age of the child, but I really wish time would slow down…..in only a couple of years my son will be off into the big wide world of university…..I can’t believe it…..when did he grow up?

  2. I like to take breaks in the course of the day and browse via some blogs to find out what other people are saying. This blog appeared in my searches and I could not aid but clicking on it. I’m happy I did due to the fact it absolutely was a extremely satisfying study.

  3. i would have to say…! stats are a ache within the arse. i mean most stat websites do not even indicate you what you genuinely have arriving into you unless you somehow do you own code and every single single web page of your very own site. personally i’ve over 100k pages on my web page so you see the trouble suitable… appropriate.

  4. The cakes look great! Funnily enough I was just writing this week about time flying by. My daugther is a year older and we are about to embark on the great University search. It makes me sentimental for all the years gone by. We had such a great summer together last year when she had finished her GCSE’s. I cherished the time we got to spend together. Glad your H had a great birthday and the cakes worked out. Hx

I do panic every so often at how quickly the time goes.
      And thank you. X

  5. Time really does fly. It makes me feel weird as my children get older. I guess I realise my time is over, no more fun to be had and its all about them making their way in the big wide world.

  7. Happy, happy birthday to your son! (Why did I think he was younger than mine?) Those cupcakes are gorgeous! They look like they came from a bakery! Very nice. You can make my birthday cake next month.

  9. What a lovely post. Yes, I find them hard too. Lovely to look back and remember all the birthdays past though – my son loves reminiscing about all his and what cakes he had.
Mine has just entered double digits which was a milestone and I suppose the next milestone will be 13 – teenagedom. It’s going so fast. I’m a June baby too and always had exams (and hayfever) on my birthday.

Glad he had a lovely day.
