Oh my goodness as I write this I have no idea if anyone is actually going to read this……so I will waffle on as you probably won’t! My head is spinning…..I took the plunge over the weekend and decided to move my blogger blog to wordpress. I have salivated over the thesis theme for a long time and decided to go for it.

It wasn’t easy. I thought naively that as I have now got html sorted that I’d have no problem moving to a self hosted word press site. I attempted to move on Saturday, not a good idea after a couple of glasses of wine, I got cold feet yesterday and cancelled the account only to try again a few hours later after @WiredKey a web host started Tweeting me and reassuring me that they would guide me through it. They have, it hasn’t been easy. Using wordpress is totally different to blogger and I’m still feeling very nervous and apprehensive wondering if I’ve done the right thing. Do you know the feeling that you get when you move, or when you have a baby you say never again? Well, I just hope that I get the, “It was all worth it in the end” feeling. The only fortunate thing is that this is a new blog with not many followers- I just hope you all come back.

If anyone has advice on transferring feedburner over, add the feedburner email widget to the blog and friend connect widget, in a language I can understand, they will be my new best friend.

Apart from the hump that is growing on my back the weekend was eventful thanks to two little rodents. Fat, fluffy ones. People be warned when your children plead, beg and promise that they will look after a hamster…..do not believe them! For years I held out, we’d had guinea pigs and although they were very sweet it was a real chore cleaning them out. We have a dog, that everyone argues over who’s turn it is to feed him, so why oh why did I believe that the darned hamster/s, yes I was persuaded that each girl needed one of their own, would be looked after without tears and frustration?

I told them…..I could not/would not clean them out. Guinea pigs are about as small as I will go, hamsters are just pretty mice…and mice are vermin!! Well, they are in my books. Do they get cleaned out weekly? Do they hell?

So, this weekend, the hamsters who incidentally are called Twinky and Rolo, in two separate cages, must have thought it was their birthdays. They were cleaned out!

Rolo was put back into his clean cage after an exercise session in his ball. He was given a new wooden treat in the shape of an apple.

This is what happened:  OKAY! I can’t upload any pictures for some reason. It keeps saying the file is too big for my server. It’s just a normal photograph! Any ideas?

Anyway, Rolo managed to get the wooden apple wedged in his teeth so that he had a very large appendage attached to his mouth which although at first looked funny was obviously distressing him. In turn I had Big C squealing and then Rolo when he got very frustrated that he couldn’t remove the offending item! Now no laughing please….I was thinking ” How much is this going to cost, a trip to the vets on a Saturday after hours by the time we get there. “Some of my twitter buddies offered advice, even a kind vet. The consensus was to prise it off or if not possible take to the vets. Now this is the hamster that bites, that has never been tamed because he bites and jumps! I wasn’t going to hold him, big C refused to hold him and our hero Big E was out. Then, just as I thought we had no choice but to ring the vet, the hamster miraculously removed the apple!! Phew.

Last night, just as big C was going to bed she went to feed the hamsters and couldn’t find Twinky!! Yes, he’d run off- do you blame him? Seems as though the cage was left open from the night before. I had been in all day and not noticed any movement. I imagined that he’d been eaten by the dog, that would explain the lack of scurrying. I couldn’t say that to Big C though. After what seemed like a very long time Twinky was found curled up under a radiator in the hall, asleep! He made a run for it but was caught and put back in his cage.

Moral….don’t even think about it! ;0)

  1. I love Thesis! I have it on my other bogs and need to get around to putting it on most | least. I haven’t quite got to grips with hooks and stuff yet – no time – but am looking forward to getting to know it a bit better. It looks great here!

  2. Well done on the move! Looks good and I may have to be forced to follow you 😉

As for hamsters my 6 y old got one for her birthday and doesn’t always feed her or change the water… I let her clean her fully the other day and ended up having to clean the floor as she made such a mess! We haven’t got a suitable sink for animal cleaning..
.-= Becky´s last blog ..Should I stay or should I go now? =-.

    1. Thank you Becky, it was probably the best time to do it when there weren’t many followers. It still scares me a bit, all very complicated but I’m pleased with what I’ve learnt so far.
As for the hamsters…they won’t be being replaced! ;0)
