I do like my wine…I like most wines but tend to drink more white than anything nowadays. However I was very happy to be sent three completely different wines from SPAR wines;  a red Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, a rosé Rosé d’Anjou and a white Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie. I have been pretty impressed with all three wines and they are all absolutely great value too.

The Red- Montepulciano d’Abruzzo

Notes:

• Country: Italy    Region: Abruzzo, East-Central Italy
• A smooth, rich, and delicious wine. Some say this is the best match for pizza, but it is also great with barbecued meat or pasta dishes.
• Priced £5.50

I served this with a rich slow cooked beef brisket, I also put a small glass of the wine into the gravy. The wine was really smooth, full bodied but not heavy. We loved this.

The Rosé – Rosé d’Anjou

Notes:

• Country: France     Region: Loire Valley
• This classic French rosé has an appetising nose of summery strawberries and cream. It has a very slight sweetness which is cut with juicy red fruit flavours on the palate. This pretty pink wine is ideal with salads, mildly spiced curries and rice dishes.
• Priced at £8, on promotion at £6.50 1^st October to 21^st October

I served this with a chilli, which may seem a little odd but as it was suggested that the wine goes with mildly spiced food, I thought I would give it a go…and it did go perfectly well.  It was quite sweet but really light.

The White – Les Deux Roches – Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie

• Country: France     Region: Loire Valley
• This crisp vibrant white wine is a classic French match for all seafood. It’s refreshing, mineral and makes a delicious aperitif too.
• Priced at £7, on promotion at £6 22^nd Oct – 11th Nov

We had this white as an aperitif, I loved it. Very light and crisp. I highly recommend this and even better it’s on special offer right now!
