It’s been a bit doom and gloom around here lately so I needed a pick me up….I love curling up on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon with a good film and chocolate at hand so saved the film Friends With Kids for a child free moment. I wasn’t sure what to expect because it says on the box that it is “The funniest film of it’s kind since Bridesmaids” and I must be the only person on the planet that doesn’t really find the film Bridesmaids funny. In fact I find it really irritating much like an itch!
Funnily enough this film stars three of the cast from Bridesmaids including Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Chris O’Dowd. The film is about a group of thirty something year old friends who start having children. The two single friends left get to watch their friends’ relationships crumble under the strain as they stumble through parenthood. Now, the friend I was watching this with said to me if you saw how hard it was, you wouldn’t in a million years want to become a parent, however Jason ( Adam Scott ) and Julie ( Jennifer Westfield ) decide that perhaps the answer to this is to have a child together but remain single and continue to date other people.
I am pleased to say there are lots of laughs in this film, just what the doctor ordered, but there are also some awkward cringe worthy moments too bringing you back down to earth with harsh reality. After all having children isn’t all fun and laughter, it is hard work and more often than not quite a thankless task. It is good to see the nitty gritty side of parenthood and the effect it has on relationships but this is a film and of course there is always the obligatory happy ending.
I thoroughly recommend it.
For one lucky winner I have a girls night in giveaway with a DVD of Friends With Kids and the DVD of Magic Mike as the prize. I have seen a trailer for Magic Mike and I have to say it looks really good so I am quite envious of this prize!
Now I am moping a bit so need to know some other feel good films to get me through the next few weeks and winter so to be in with a chance of winning this prize please let me know what film you would recommend to me. Probably one of my all time favourites is Notting Hill. I have lost count of how many times I have watched this film, and I very rarely watch a film more than once.
To win a copy of Friends With Kids and Magic Mike please let me know in the comment section below what film you would recommend I watch.
The competition is only to UK residents, sorry, and will close at midnight on Tuesday 27th November

Ok, it might not be one that you watch “all” the time, but I recently saw Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and it’s brrr-illiant. About a little boy trying to make sense of the world after suffering tragedy on 9/11. Has gone straight into my Favourite Films of All Time list xx
I haven’t heard of this one…I will look out for it, thank you. x
The Family Stone. A large disfunctional family coping with a multitude of issues to spend a Christmas united. Claire Danes outshines Sarah Jessica Parker, and there are many laughs. It hits the heart – in a good way, and I expect it’s appropriate for the whole family to watch.
oh dear. Apologies for the “How to Pitch” thing that popped up. I’ve never seen that before after a comment. I didn’t mean to try and put an unrelated link in there!
Thank you I’ve not heard of that one before…I will seek it out.
One of my all time favourite films is Pretty Woman. A classic with brilliant actors that always makes me smile x
Yes, a good choice! z
Sweet Home Alabama, bit of a feel good one that shows the grass isn’t always greener
Oooo, not watched that thank you. x
The Green Hornet. I really enjoyed it and it’s a really fun movie.
Love actually, you’ve probably seen it 20 times already, but it’s one of those film you can watch monthly…
