I have said before that we love books in this house so when James Parkin asked us to review his new book The New Ghost from his Ghost Gang series we jumped at the chance. About a group of friendly child ghosts that live in and haunt Claire Rock primary school, this gang of ghosts enter the dreams of any children they see sad and unhappy at the school.

In the first book The New Ghost we meet Winston, a nine year old boy who has sadly drowned. Winston is then befriended by the Ghost Gang a group of other children who have unfortunately died at a young age. Instead of being unhappy about dying Winston is shown how he can have fun by being able to do things that he would never be able to do as a child such as be a pirate, go into space, swim deep in the ocean or be part of the circus.

When the gang see a distressed child at the school they follow them around trying to find out what is causing them pain and then at night when the child is asleep they enter their dreams. These dreams take them on adventures to places such as the circus where they get involved in the dream and have fun and games.

Imogen aged nine, read the book quickly and enjoyed it a lot. The books are recommended for ages 8-12 years and I agree with that as it deals with some older child issues such as kissing. It isn’t my favourite book ever but then I am not nine but it is good to have a range of books that have a different theme for a change. The books can be book for a very very reasonable £1.99 for a special 3 in 1 edition for Kindles via Big Red Sock  and a hard copy costs £4.99.
