Ask any of my children what my worst bug bear is and I think they would all say horrible smells…I think I am overly sensitive to bad smells which is not very nice. The dog bears the brunt of my moans…either he really would win a smelliest dog competition or my heightened sense of smell exaggerates it. I can even smell whiffy socks a mile off!
So when I was asked to take part in a Breathe Happy Blogger Challenge how could I possibly resist? What smells make my family and I smile?
Bacon!! Oh yes…it most definitely makes my two older sons smile…bacon has been know to turn vegetarians back to meat! *Cough*
Flowers, I’m not sure my children take much notice of them indoors, four year old M picks them from the garden and smells them but I think he is about the only one and although I love looking at flowers and adore freshly cut flowers in the house I am not swayed by their smell at all.
What adult can resist the aroma of fresh coffee, just inhaling freshly ground beans can be enough of a kick! However it does not really appeal to my children.
I love scented candles and have them burning all the time at home but I’ve always been slightly sceptical of ones that promise to eliminate odours but among my pack of goodies that I got sent to produce various smells was a Febreze Thai Orchid candle. I eat my words, somehow this candle does appear to eliminate odours…even smelly teenage shoe ones and anything that can do that makes me smile!
What smell do you think makes my children smile the most though?
Yes it’s cakes! Home baked, fresh from the oven..well they are my children and they do have my genes. 😉
What smells make you or your children smile? Others to add to my list are rose oil, red wine, newborn babies and spicy food.
Right…I am off to make my children smile at me some more. Oven at the ready!
The sun on freshly mown grass, the sharp smell of the sea, and for my kids: well it would have to be the smell of pizza in the oven 🙂

well at least one of my favourite smells I know won’t appeal to most…bonfires! I *hate* fire but love the smell of a bonfire, so does my Dad 🙂
I love the smell of germolene too. Maybe brings back comforting childhood memories of scraped knees being made better?
Another of my weird ones is the smell of the dog’s paws. Not wet stinky dog smell but I swear Stella’s paws smell like rich tea biscuits to me!
My favourite scented candle is Parma Violets by Lily Flame and second favourite is their Mistletoe Kisses which is pure real Christmas tree smell 🙂
& now I’m wishing I had bacon in the house!
Oh I like bonfire smell too! I like the sound of the Parma Violets candle…does it smell like the sweets? I am going to have a hunt for that now. 🙂 X
Oh we love the smell of bacon and eggs and freshly cooked pizza. I also like the wafting aromas of onions and garlic being sauteed in olive oil. And of course, the smell of Spring!

At present my boys go large for the smell of the stawberries in the garden – they also go for eating them too!! Never seem to have enough in the bowl when I send them out to pick!
Mmmmm yes strawberries! We don’t grow any but we can go and pick them 2 minutes away and the children love it. 🙂
Vanilla (boring, I know) is one of my favorite smells for the house. It’s just so fresh and clean.
Oh I love vanilla too, i had forgotten that and geranium oil in my oil burner. 🙂 x

I make gluten free ones…hard to resist them though! Now I fancy some bacon. 🙂 x
