A highlight of Christmas here is the excuse for once to sit back, enjoy dinner, with no guilty obligations to be getting on with anything else and then getting the games and trivia cards out. It is a rare occasion so we make the most of it. I love it!

We were kindly sent the new game Take Me Out to review. The game is based on the hit television programme that just like marmite you either love or hate, and divides the nation on a Saturday night. I have a confession to make, the boys and I secretly enjoy this modern day dating programme where a host of beautiful girls get the chance to be chosen to go on a date with a bachelor who also has to impress the girls so that they keep their lights on. There is nothing more embarrassing than someone ending up with no lights left on therefore no girl to chose from.

The game consists of a light and sound unit with the host Paddy McGuiness’ distinctive voice, 100 single man cards, 50 Power is in your hands cards, 1 single girl pad, 12 Isle of Fernandos vouchers and coloured dice. The aim is to be the last girl left or be chosen by the single man. Along the way you have to guess the single man’s occupation and hobby by drawings and miming actions. The electronic buzzer is there with Paddy’s famous catchphrase “No Likey, no Lighty”

This game is for 12+ and 3-31 players.

What did we think?

Well, sadly we couldn’t persuade the boys to play, they may love the programme but were not going to play this…maybe at Christmas they will. Not sure if it’s the pink box which put them off. So, it was left to two twelve year olds, an eight year old, myself and a 4 year old floating around. This is definitely for children aged 12 and above, Little I, 8, couldn’t read all the occupations and hobbies on the card. It was funny trying to work out what the drawings were and I can imagine in a situation with a large number of players a whiteboard would be best used but would also make much more of this game. However the occupations were quite obscure, it is quite difficult to draw a ‘bodyguard’ or ‘newspaper seller’ and this was far too difficult for Little I to guess or draw, but then the game isn’t aimed at her age group anyway. The same problem occurred in the miming round, trying to mime ‘Karaoke’ or ‘Polo’ proved tough, however it was hilarious. We all found the light and sound unit very very loud, it is a shame there isn’t a volume control on it but again if there was a huge crowd playing then it would be needed.

I liked the two in one element of this game…imagine charades and pictionary merged together. This would be fantastic in a big crowd of adults and older children and at RRP of £19.99 it is quite good value.

We award Take Me Out 3 out of 5 cupcakes
