The Land of Me is a very cute interactive learning adventure aimed at 2-6 year olds. Gorgeous drawings and animations take you through the six chapters where you will meet a magical world full of owls, raccoons, bears, crocodiles, monsters and much more. Willow, Buddy Boo and Eric watched over by Granny Olive, a giant tortoise, spend their days and nights discovering The Land of Me.

The six chapters comprise of

  1. Shape, Size & Colour- children are encouraged to get creative with colours and sizes when they travel to the hot springs of Me.
  2. The World Outside- I like this one, children get to choose the weather and the time of day where the characters get to explore.
  3. Making Things- Build teepees, palaces and find out who lives in them.
  4. Rhythm & Dance- This encourages children to get up and dance.
  5. Songs & Rhymes- Get singing!
  6. Story Time- Granny Olive allows the child to pick virtually every part of the story meaning that it can be told in so many different ways.

Little M, aged three and Little I, aged eight are both especially enchanted with the Story Time chapter often sitting together to listen and make decisions as to which way they would like the story to go. They enjoy being able to completely change the story at the simple click of a button.

I like that the children are encouraged to make decisions while at the same time learning colours, shapes, about the world, the difference between warm and cold places to name just a few and all the while not realising that they are in fact learning. I am also pleased that I don’t have to sit with Little M for him to play with The Land of Me although when I do there are lots of ‘extra’ facts that I can read to him to gain even more from each chapter.

Each chapter has extra activities that can be printed off so that children can make finger puppets, masks, colouring, dot to dot. In total there is over 100 printable activities of things to do extending the learning and longevity of the game. Some of the activities involve getting the glue out, others encourage children to get outside and explore the world around them.

So far we have only positive things to say about The Land of Me and we continue to discover more each time we open it up. I have been impressed at how long little M stays focused whilst playing the game, in fact I’ve had to close the laptop to get him off of it he has been so engrossed. I believe younger children would be fascinated by the sweet talking creatures although I think they would need an adult to help them navigate the programme.

Each chapter costs £6.95 or they can be bought together for £29.95. It can be downloaded straight away or bought on CD Rom.

We were given The Land of Me chapters to review.

We award the Land of Me 5 out of 5 cupcakes.
