If you read my last post or are a regular Twitter follower you will know about my lost photos woes…….and then the joy this week at finding them. It was only because I had a photobook from Photobox of Little M’s first year that I had any photos of his birth and precious first year. In the age of digital photos I am the world’s worst at getting photos developed now and tend to rely on technology to keep my photos safe…..hmmm, silly eh?

Who doesn’t love flicking through a photo album? How many of us will never have hard copies of our photos? My older children love looking at pictures of themselves when they were smaller.

The Product– There is a solution though, a Photobook from Photobox……a book that you produce online from your uploaded photos which is then printed. You then receive a hard backed photo album of your digital photos. “Transform your memories into a personalised book”

I was very impressed the first time I made a photobook for Little M but have recently done another one for my brother and sister-in-law’s wedding. I found the pictures uploaded a lot quicker then previously, there was far more choice of album designs and the whole process a lot easier. The Price– Photobooks start from £29.99 but I chose a Crystal Deluxe Photobook which starts at £38.99 for 26 pages. I felt the extra special occasion of a wedding deserved sparkly crystals. My photos don’t do the album justice.

The process– If you know exactly which photos you want to use in your album then uploading and putting them into an album can be very quick. However, if you are a procrastinator like myself then it may take a little longer choosing the album you want, the order of the photos, the many different page layouts…the choices are endless. You can choose different designs for the pages with relevant backgrounds. For the wedding album I chose the elegant Crystals deluxe book with black pages. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Captions can be added to make the book even more personalised. It is very easy to add more pages and there are other premium options that can be added.

It took me a couple of evenings getting the book exactly as I wanted it and then two weeks after ordering, the book arrived….well packaged and protected from any possible damage in the post.

The Verdict– I am very pleased with the book…..The cover is stunning, the crystals adding the extra special touch that I wanted. The paper is of high quality, the photos are clear and sharp. I love the individuality of each page layout and the fact that I wasn’t tied to a specific format. Some pages I used the whole space for just one photo, on other pages I used several photos. Unfortunately a couple of the photos that I thought were very sharp and clear weren’t, my mistake but be aware that when a photo is ‘blown’ up it shows faults in the photo that you may not notice normally.

Would I buy it?– Definitely! I am hoping to get all the old photos put onto disc so that I can make photobooks of everything to preserve our memories and also to actually have them in our hands to look at whenever we want.

  2. I haven’t used this service, but I made a book using a similar service for my MIL’s Christmas present. She loved it. I need to get around to doing a couple for us.

  3. I think these a fabulous idea – we have something similar available in iPhoto with the Mac but shamefully confess to not even getting around to putting one together yet. As I said to you on Twitter the other day… when it comes to photo’s sometimes technology can be a bit of a curse! xx

  5. I created one for my FIL for his 80th birthday…filled with pics from his family renunion/birthday party. He and MIL loved it. For MIL birthday, I had printed professionally the shots I took and framed them.

I had another book made for Stan on his “gotcha day” one year. Filled with pics of him and his hanbok from Korea.

They do make beautiful gifts. For me, I still have an issue with space. So, I keep my pics on USB port, plugged into my digital frame. When a “little” wants a print some day, I can just have it made.

  6. Me and my mum were just saying how she likes to still go and get hers developed and this is a meeting point in the middle. The book looks great, and if you the images load more easily then that’s just fab. Nice one, I am gonna try it with my kids first years…
