DESPICABLE ME
OUT 15th OCTOBER 2010
Starring:
Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Jason Segel, Julie Andrews
We had the pleasure of going to see Universal’s new 3D movie “Despicable Me’ last week, directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud
Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, is the criminal mastermind who uses three little orphans to help him steal the moon. He then has to battle with his feelings for them when they see him as a potential dad. Be prepared, take some tissues. Russell Brand is the voice behind Gru’s sidekick Dr Nefario, and Vector, his arch criminal rival is played by Jason Segel. Julie Andrew’s plays Gru’s awful mother.
I’m not usually a fan of 3D films but it was used to brilliant effect in this film, not least the stomach churning roller coaster ride. The gags just keep coming, it certainly kept the adults in the audience laughing, and the film is action packed.
Little I ( 7) and Big C ( 11) especially loved the film, they were raving about it when we left and I can imagine they would like to get the DVD eventually. Little M (3) wasn’t really taken in by it unfortunately which I found surprising, especially with Gru’s cute army of little yellow creatures called Minions. It could be the 3D glasses though, I find toddlers don’t like wearing them, they’re always too big, and then the film is all fuzzy. Big H (16) and Big E (13) are too cool to say but I got the impression that they were amused by it too.
I particularly liked the music which was composed by Hans Zimmer, Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams……..it’s catchy, foot tapping, feel good stuff! It was the best part for me and I’m tempted to buy a CD of the music.
All in all, it’s well worth a visit to the cinema to watch this when it is released on October 15th 2010, it has a feel good factor, lots of laughs, maybe some tears and you won’t come away disappointed.
We’ve awarded it four out of five cupcakes

As for me, Despicable Me is one of the best movies from Universal. I really liked it and was really happy when the Despicable Me 2 was released.
I am trying to view this in Safari but the images are not loading very well. Is it my broadband speed?
This looks great, I will need to take Lucas to see this. x
We’ve seen the previews this past summer and the kids were excited to see it. Thanks for the reminder! I enjoy Steve C.
I wonder when it comes out on DVD over there? Films seem to be out so quickly on DVD the children never have to wait long do they. 🙂
I’m not a fan of 3d films either but then I think that’s because we’ve watch the wrong ones maybe that have not used it right. Look forward to checking this one out when its released 🙂
I’ve only ever seen children’s films in 3D but the glasses do annoy me. 🙂
