I have recently started taking photos in the manual mode on my camera after reading Cosmic Girlie’s Photoblog – just like Jay describes in her latest post, moving from Automatic to manual is like learning a new language. I keep forgetting this new language all the time….keep having to readjust the two settings that I have learned and I keep taking a lot of dud photos that are either overexposed or underexposed….thank goodness for digital cameras.
I couldn’t decide on just one photo as I have been really pleased with a lot of the photos I’ve taken since the ‘switch over’ but have narrowed it down to two.
First up:
I hope you can see what I see…I love the way the water appears to part as my daughter falls into it and the foam of the water.
And then:
I took this last week when my daughter was a bridesmaid. I know it’s not perfect but I still really like it. I love the blurriness of the background.
These pictures have been posted for The Gallery….an online photo gallery at Sticky Fingers. Each week Tara gives us a prompt and we link up our posts. This week’s prompt is ‘A photo I am Proud of”

Thanks for the good read. I must query a couple of things. Can I post here or should I pm you.
I have a slight difficult situation right here. I want to purchase a decent cell and can’t decide on which phone to select. To begin with, i am considering the Nokia N97, which my friend has. It appears pretty durable, and it all seemed alright, but then i started looking at others. Now my largest problem is deciding between the Nokia 5610Nokia 6500 and the Samsung B3310. Any suggestions?
Wow, that first shot is stunning – what a great capture! And I adore the second one – the focus is great and it has a peaceful, vintage feel to it. Excellent pictures 🙂
Thank you….was really pleased with them. 😀
That first picture is amazing the water is really parting it is great. The second picture is stunning, gorgeous photo. Well done they are fab xx
Thank you Kerry. 🙂 x
How did you do take that first photo? It is fabulous!!!! But the other one is lovely too:-))
Thank you Michelle, I’ve no idea to be honest! 😉
The first one is amazong. Everyone’s making me very jealous with their fancy cameras!
Thank you…..I can’t believe I left the camera in the box for 18 months not knowing what to do with it.
I love the water splashing in the first photo! And the second one just beautiful
Thank you….I was pleased with how they turned out. 🙂
That IS cool how the water parts open like that! Amazing catch.
Thanks so much…I was worried no one would like it as much as I do. 🙂
Two lovely photos! The water one is quite incredible, like Chris above, I too can ‘hear’ the splash, well done for capturing that! The 2nd one is very sweet & gentle looking.
Thank you Karen….I was pleased with them. 😀
That first shot is brilliant, absolutely amazing and the bridesmaid one too. Very well done you
Thank you….must admit I was surprised the first one came out like it did. 🙂
Aww what a pretty bridesmaid! Love the water shot the best, it looks realy amazing, well done!
Thank you….I was pleased with them. 🙂
Depth of field…. that’s what I want! My sis takes amazing pictures of my girls with just that blurry background, and can I do it? Can I buggery…..? Well done you.
Is that what it is called? I have so much to learn…..and the camera is clever, since moving to manual I’ve managed to get the blurry background. 😉 And thank you.
Oh my goodness how DID you capture that first one? The water looks almost solid – like a big blue sponge! it’s brilliant.
Thanks so much….. was so pleased with it. I couldn’t describe it but yes it does look solid…a bit like jelly. 😀
Lovely pics. I actually really like the blur!
Thanks Queenie. 😀
Beautiful! Both of them. I can see it must have been so hard to choose for this prompt!
I found it really hard to choose, taken so many pictures recently! 😉
Fantastic photos, I love the water one, you captured it perfectly. Well done. And your little girl is just gorgeous. xx
Thank you Susan. X
They are fab – I love them both.
Thanks Nickie. 😀
Stunning pictures. Water shot is incredible, but I love the second picture where she looks like she just wants to be alone (arm and stick forming cross) and head turned away.
Haha…yes I’ve no idea what she was thinking or doing. 🙂
Oh these are great! The water picture especially is STUNNING, that’s a fantastic capture, well done. As for the bridesmaid pic, that’s a really well composed picture, the depth of field (fizzy background) is great and you have a lovely subject – love it 😀
I’d be very proud of these too! x
Thanks so much Jay, I was really pleased with it. 😀
I love your pool shot – it looks like everything is in slow motion! Really clever. The second shot i can see why you are proud of for different reasons as your daughter looks so pretty 🙂
Thanks so much…..I couldn’t believe the pool photo. Was just good luck I think! 🙂
Wow, stunning photos! I have also switched to a SLR not long ago…still learning….there is so much to learn 😉
There is isn’t there…..most I take are deleted but it’s all good practise. 🙂
Fantastic! I didn’t comment on your wedding post, they all the photos there were gorgeous too 🙂 x
Thank you Sandy….must admit I was really pleased with the wedding photos. 🙂 xx
Wow, they are fantastic! The first one is great but I love the bridesmaid photo – it’s the blurriness of the background which gets me too 🙂 x
Thank you Lindsey, I must admit I have a soft spot for ‘pretty’ photos. 🙂
Absolutely gorgeous! I LOVE that first one…I can hear the splash!
Thank you…so glad you can ‘see’ it too. I was really pleased with how it came out. 😀
