I’ve had an unusual day today in that it’s just been Big E, aged twelve, and I. It’s a very rare occurrence, apart from days off sick from school I cannot remember the last time we spent time together alone.

Big E is a huge Playstation fan, he does spend a lot of time on it, he makes videos of himself and uploads them to You tube but he is doing well in school and still reads a lot so I don’t worry too much. Big E also loves fishing and today when he was outside feeding the fish in one of our ponds he saw a snake. This isn’t that unusual, we find lots of shedded skins in the summer but I have never actually seen a live snake in the garden, just heard them slithering away.

I went out to have a look and managed to photograph two. One that Big E was watching and then one huge one that suddenly appeared spooking us both and then launching itself into the pond. We think they were both grass snakes although at first we thought the big one was an adder. We do get these in our garden.

Excuse the quality of the photos….I need a bigger zoom! I could have done with these photos for Tara’s The Gallery this week!

  2. I had a dream to start my organization, nevertheless I did not have enough of cash to do this. Thank heaven my friend proposed to take the business loans. Therefore I took the student loan and realized my desire.

    1. I know, the children are aware of that, they always say at least they are safe ones. I can’t imagine living somewhere that you have to be careful if you see snakes. That’s the downside of living somewhere hot and beautiful I suppose.

  5. Ew, ew, ew!!!! Another reason I don’t want to live near lakes, ponds, or creeks…….

Wildlife can just stay far, far, far away from me and me from it!

  6. Now *that* has made my blood run cold! They are massive! We’ve had grass snakes (we call them sloworms) in our garden but I’m sure they never looked like that!

Loving your new look blog too!

    1. One was quite small, the other was surprisingly big. We get sloworms too I’m glad I haven’t seen one of those.Eeeewww. I think we are in the same county though, so probably get much the same wildlife.
      And thank you.

    1. They’re harmless snakes. Most of the time they stay out of our way. We were watching very quietly for them and they were sunbathing. They do that when it’s sunny. ;0`)
