Today on the spur of the moment we decided to go to the cinema to see Nanny McPhee. So, there were two eleven year olds, one seven year old, a two year old and me….cost £37.50. Quite a lot for a single parent but that’s what overdrafts are for I suppose. As I wasn’t very organised we took drinks but nothing else. We aren’t allowed to take anything in to the cinema, an Odeon, such as sweets and drinks brought from home but at a cost of at least £2.50 for a bottle of water I refuse to buy drinks there.
The children had two small tubs of popcorn and two bags of pick n mix- £12.35. Okay, I swallowed that, it’s a very rare treat.
We find our seats in row K. Only one of the children out of four can see over the back of the seat in front, these are premium seats. At first I sat fuming, one because I have no idea how these seats can be sold as premium and two because this is not the first time we’ve been caught out with the same problem. I went back to the foyer to ask if we can move and to complain. There were no spare seats and although fairly sympathetic I was told to write to the head office.
I cannot remember the last time I took the children to the cinema, it’s far cheaper to wait until the DVD is released and then have a film night in and it seems that viewing is easier at home and more pleasurable too. I think that’s what we’ll be doing from now on.
By the way, we loved the film, am I the only one that blubbered at the end?

When I go to the cinema with friends we hide bottled water and pre bought sweeties in out bags! Refuse to pay obscene prices and they can’t ask you to open your bags to check.
I do agree though that it is incredibly expensive, we go on Orange Wednesday’s so it’s half price.

We go to Kids AM which is 95p for adults and kids. We went on Tuesday. 3 kids me and popcorn trays which included, popcorn, little choc bar and a fruitshoot for them and it cost £11!!! Ok so its only films that are just about to go onto DVD but I would not pay the prices for the mainstream films ridiculous!

Haven’t seen it yet so I shan’t comment on the ending!
However, we go to the cinema for the cheap days or the kids club movies or if we have vouchers, which is about once a year! It is way too expensive and there needs to have an enforced price cut!

Going to the movies here is pretty expensive too – so usually, it’s a matinee for us. ::sssshhhhh, don’t tell, but I’ve been known to sneak in the candy, what not, and just buy the drinks and maybe popcorn – that’s our secret….::
Our theaters don’t have “premium” seats – as most theaters are tiered – and all seats are the same price.
But here – most theaters provide booster seats for the little ones. I’m guessing your’s doesn’t. Maybe a suggestion to be made to management?

Yes, we sneak it in when I’m organised enough…I can’t see why you can’t it’s a rip off otherwise. These are all tiered too, premium seats are wider etc…that’s all that was left with five seats but the children should be able to see though. Another cinema that we used to go to had booster seats for little ones but the stopped providing them. Probably some stupid health and safety law!
The film was good so that was a bonus anyway. x
I still even now refuse to part with my money for the overpriced drinks & snacks at cinemas (I’m tight like that!). I take the hugest handbag I own and shove bags of sweets & drinks in there, but I do buy the popcorn.

I hid the drinks , the prices are disgusting but they like choosing the pick n mix, next time I will have to be more organised.
