My Nan always used to have a stack of small make up and beauty samples even though it was 35 years ago…I think she used to get them in Woolworths and I loved rummaging through them trying out the numerous bright red lipsticks. There were lots. My mum carried on this tradition and somehow I do exactly the same. I am a marketers dream, tempted by the small freebies offered by companies throughout the year. Slightly better now I tend not to get sucked in by the lure of a product I will probably never use but I still have stacks of little toiletries that may be needed one day. Come to our house and need a toothbrush, we have lots from various plane trips, need a travel size shampoo for a school trip? No problem, what type would you like?
So it is surprising that I haven’t been enticed by Birchbox so far. It certainly was not because I wasn’t tempted.
Birchbox is a monthly subscription service that delivers beauty and lifestyle product samples. This gives the recipient the opportunity to discover new products and brands. So when I was gifted a subscription to Birchbox I rubbed my hands in glee and waited with anticipation of my first delivery in January.
I have to admit to being a teeny tiny bit disappointed when my January box arrived though, I hadn’t expected the samples to be so small, I can’t even read the writing on a couple of the products.
However…the Birchbox February box…
…I knew as I carefully unwrapped it that I would love the contents inside
What was in Birchbox February?
Already a fan of Korres’ skincare products for the face I was thrilled to receive a generously sized 50 ml bottle of Korres Citrus shower gel. Citrus based products are ones that I choose myself for the bath and shower so this is perfect.
When you subscribe to Birchbox you fill in a questionnaire about yourself and products are chosen with this in mind. Therefore I can see why there was a tube of KMS California Tame Frizz Taming Creme, ideal for my long, curly, prone to frizz hair. Again a good size of 50ml.
Caudalie is another brand I am familiar with but I haven’t tried the Vinoperfect Radiance Serum before so I am really looking forward to seeing what results I get from this. The ‘beauty’ of a beauty product subscription service, in my opinion, is being able to try out a product before making the leap to buy a full size which can turn out to be an expensive mistake.
A full size tube of Wild About Beauty Golden Skin Glow was also in the box. This is a tinted cream that boosts the natural radiance of the face. I was surprised at how dark the cream was and didn’t think it would suit my pale skin but it blended perfectly and I don’t even need to wear anything else with it.
I’ve tried The Balm Cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen on my lips, it is a gel stain that gives a long lasting natural colour and can be used on the cheeks too. I’ve not tried that yet though.
There was also a sample of The Chia Co. Oats + Chia Mixed Berry.
There are also cards with various tips, about make-up and skincare related to the products in the box. So, yes I am convinced, I even love the box and the drawstring bag all the products come in. Already looking forward to the March box!
I really must subscribe to this, I always say I will and never get around to it! Great products!
I think it’s something we can all live without but nice to get a treat through the door once a month isn’t it 🙂
I like the sound of citrus shower gel; it must be very refreshing and perfect help with waking up in the morning
It is very refreshing
Blimey this is a really good box! I have some WAB polishes and they’re pretty cute.
It is isn’t it. 🙂
The drawstring bag lends it a touch of surprise, I think. I can imagine opening it to find all these goodies stashed inside.
It does doesn’t it…and I will be using that bag for so many things too 🙂
Love the sound of the citrus showergel
The perfect shower gel fragrance isn’t it.
9.95 plus p&p is a good price for this. I think my wife would love to be getting this each month. Thanks for sharing. Sounds perfect for you! Lots of little versions of new products for you add to your hoarders collection! lol
Yes, would make a lovely present…I am making a big effort to use the products so they don’t end up in a box 😉
I find that I’m sometimes disappointed with these boxes so I stopped my sub but I haven’t tried this one.
It’s always such luck of the draw isn’t it, we’ll see if I’m still happy next month 😉
How much does it cost? I’d like to be receiving this every month, I think any girl would! And my mum used to have an array of red lipsticks too!
It’s £9.95 plus P&P
This is such a good box, I am quite a fan of KMS hair products and I love Caudalie x
Good one isn’t it 😀
Sounds good – I like the idea of sample sizes and being able to try a bit of a variety of products that I wouldn’t otherwise buy in store!
Yes it’s a good idea isn’t it
This looks like a great box, I’m really tempted to sign up! xxx
It is isn’t it 🙂
Ooh be interested to hear how the frizz stuff is – always on the look out for something that tames my frizz!
Will let you know 🙂
I keep seeing these boxes and thinking i should give them a go, love the Wild About Beauty Golden Skin Glow and might have to give that a go. Thanks so much for sharing, xx
No worries, it’s tempting isn’t it.
oh i would like a box like this , there ar some lovely items i would use in there
Lovely isn’t it 🙂
I love these beauty subscription boxes and although I haven’t tried Birchbox yet it looks really good and the perfect way to try out some beauty goodies 🙂
It’s great isn’t it.
I love the look of this box and also the idea of getting a box of treats through the door every month. Very nice!!
Who doesn’t like a monthly treat, something to look forward to isn’t it 🙂
I am adoring the concept of this, with finances somewhat restricted currently this means i could try without the full cost of the products to find new ones i love! .. great idea
it’s a luxury really isn’t it but can be seen as good value when you think about what you get and as you say you get to try products that you wouldn’t normally be able to 🙂
That is the first time I have been tempted by a box. Love Korrs and I am a frizzy mess!
There are some good products aren’t there. 🙂
I would love to try one of these, they look great! x
It is great but a big indulgence really isn’t it. 😉
Yours is slightly different to mine but I am loving this month’s. The radiance serum is fab
I’ve used it this morning for the first time and it feels lovely
