I have so much to share with you after my amazing, get used to that word I am going to use it a lot, ‘Culinary Showcase’ press trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. This is going to take plenty of posts so be prepared, I have to tell someone though as I am driving my children mad going on about what an amazing time I had. We were wined and dined, thrilled and scared, shined on and rained on, drank tequila at 9am, made dumplings at 10am and covered in buttercream and sprinkles by lunch… even the airport will be memorable. All 28 hours spent there. Ssshhh but don’t tell anyone, I did say a little prayer for the American Bald Eagle that decided to fly into our plane as it was landing, causing such severe damage thus grounding the plane…but an extra day in Florida a hardship? Hell no!
The trip got off to a great start in the Virgin Holidays V-Room, our flight was delayed so it was great to relax in a chilled atmosphere with comfy seats and a huge choice of complimentary refreshments. In true form I had the works; Bacon, scrambled eggs, sausage, mushrooms whilst my travelling companion added some ‘five a day’ in the form of delicious water melon.
In the Virgin Holidays V-Room we could have had pastries alongside tea, coffee and juices and there was a bar serving cocktails, champagne and other alcoholic beverages, these are not complimentary though. At 9am it was a little early to hit the bar…next time though.
I loved the brightness of the V-Room, it is modern and clean, with chairs to lounge in and read the paper, and also tables to eat at. There are fab views over the runway so you can see the planes landing and taking off.
The V-room has free wi-fi, a great asset when you are delayed and there are also sockets to charge phones and laptops…just remember to put the charger in your hand luggage, unlike me who got on the plane with about 8% charge left! There is even a cool soft play room for young children, however the Virgin Holidays V-Room was virtually child-free when were there.
The V-Room costs from £24.50 per adult and £14 per child if prebooked. The room did get quite busy, probably a consequence of our delayed flight, but everyone seemed jolly and ready for their holidays. I think if you are travelling alone or with a friend this makes for a very pleasant start to your holiday, it is a little expensive if going in with a family but something worth considering if you want to escape the frenetic madness of Gatwick’s terminal before your flight. In fact it may save you money by avoiding the temptation of shopping!
