I do like a dress, given the choice I would always wear dresses. So when I was asked if I would like to review something from the Joe Browns website it was, of course, only ever going to be a dress. However, I decided to go for something a little different to what I would normally. Firstly the dress is white, secondly it has a fairly bold pattern and the third point is that it is a little longer than dresses I usually wear. My new dress from Joe Browns is called ‘Chance of Romance’.
Chance of Romance is a fitted white dress with a bold black floral pattern, it does also come in ‘Multi’. The dress is made from 98% cotton and 2% elastane with a 100% polyester lining, and has a discreet white zip at the back. It costs £44.95
Although advertised as stretch cotton I found that there is isn’t a lot of stretch or give, and the sizes are not very generous. However this dress is very versatile and can be worn dressed up or down.
Despite my tendency to go for shorter dresses, because of my lack of height, I really like the length of this dress. It is elegant for someone my age and perfect for formal occasions with heels. My ‘phobia’ of wearing white (thanks to years and years of very young children) is alleviated due to the bold print. I would feel comfortable wearing this dress out knowing that the pattern would hide small spillages.
I love the cute heart button at the left hand bottom of the dress. The stitching is very neat and there are no stray threads, I have given all the stitching a good tug and it is very strong and there is no worry that the stitching will come undone, which I find a problem with so many items of clothing nowadays. The pattern doesn’t quite match up exactly at the back but it is perfectly acceptable, the website does state, “due to the nature of this garment, the print placement may vary slightly” I would rather the lining was cotton rather than polyester which can be uncomfortable on very hot days, I would be tempted to remove the lining if it wasn’t sewn in so well, I think there may be a bit more stretch in the dress then too.
Would I recommend this dress? Yes I would, I think it is very good value for money. The website is easy to navigate with lots of choice for men and women with some unique pieces with some great patterns and styles. I now have a wish list of tunics, and shoes, and more dresses, and…
Disclosure: I was sent the Chance of Romance dress from Joe Browns to review, all opinions are my own.
