Gourmet Tonight’s Sauces: review

Gourmet TonightI am not averse to using a jar of sauce occasionally when I am lacking inspiration or time so was very happy to try out Gourmet Tonight ‘Tomato, Red Wine and Smoked Paprika’ sauce. There are two other Gourmet Tonight sauces; Three Peppercorn and Cheese and Smoky Bacon. Each jar is enough to make a meal for 3-4 people.

I was very lucky to receive a hamper full of ingredients, crockery and a very lovely bottle of red wine to tempt me to make the recipe on the back of the jar; Gourmet Andalucian Lamb casserole. The writing on the jar is very small so you may need a magnifying glass to read the instructions but once you can it is a very easy recipe to follow. That or my eyesight is going! I don’t usually use lamb in casseroles but it made a lovely change, the sauce is rich and tasty although next time I would probably add a little bit more paprika as it is very mild. It was suggested that I accompany this with roast rosemary and garlic potatoes, I added some green vegetables to go with the vibrant red colour of the lamb. Mmmm, it was delicious. This recipe and sauce would also work well with stewing steak.

Andalucian Lamb CasseroleThe sauces are gluten free which is a great bonus and the allergens are clearly marked on the jar. At £1.69 a jar it is good value especially with a recipe on each jar that is creative. I love the idea of making a fish pie with the Cheese and Smoky Bacon sauce.

Gourmet Lamb casseroleThe Gourmet Tonight sauces are available in Morrisons now and I would most definitely recommend them.

Disclosure: I was sent a hamper with sauces, crockery and ingredients but this does not affect my opinions in any way.
